With East Moline Democrat Cheri Bustos retiring after the end of her term, there will be a new Congressperson representing the 17th District after the November election.
In a crowded field of Democrats trying to take her spot, Eric Sorensen, former Quad Cities TV meteorologist, has taken the majority of the votes, beating out the likes of former Illinois State Representative Litesa Wallace and Rockford Alderman Johnathan Logemann.
Sorensen took in nearly 38 percent of the votes for the 17th Congressional district.
On the Republican side, Esther Joy King defeated Charlie Helmick to again be their nominee going into the November election. King took on Bustos in 2020 and gave the sitting Congresswoman a run for her money. She took in nearly 69 percent of the vote.
Tammy Duckworth is facing re-election this fall and winning the Republican nomination in a crowded field was Kathy Slavi, earning over 30 percent of the vote.
