Traffic stop lead stop arrest of New York man on federal crimes in Galesburg

A Rochester, New York man was arrested in Galesburg on charges of Felony Obstruction, Resisting Arrest, Sex Offender Registration Violations, and a U.S. Marshal’s Warrant for Sex Crimes.

According to the Illinois State Police on Thursday, June 23rd, at around 12-23 a-m, troopers made a traffic stop on Tompkins Street near Cedar Street in town.

During the traffic stop, the backseat passenger provided false identification and was transported to the Knox County Jail until his identification could be confirmed.

On Tuesday his ID was confirmed as 34-year-old Michael L. Bombard, who was wanted for a federal probation violation for sex offenses and possession of child pornography.

He was being sought by the U.S. Marshals Service. He is being held without bond in the Knox County Jail.

It remains unclear why he was in Galesburg.
