More road work is getting underway this weekend that will take up most of the rest of the summer.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that work is getting started Friday, July 22, at the U.S. 34/67 interchange near Monmouth.

IDOT will be pavement patching and resurfacing the ramps between 6:00 p.m. on Fridays to 6:00 a.m. on Mondays over several weekends. All work is expected to be completed by August 26.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow for extra time for trips when traveling through the area. When feasible, consider using alternate routes to avoid the work area.

Drivers are also urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,500 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
