29-year-old Kyle Reddick will spend the next few decades behind bars, after his motion to withdraw a guilty plea for Attempted First Degree murder was denied on Monday, August 1st. Reddick was facing multiple counts of attempted murder and other charges for a shooting in a residential area of Monroe Street on New Year’s Day 2021. Reddick came out of his Monroe St. home, hours into the New Year, shooting toward a car occupied by four individuals. All sustained injuries but survived. Almost a year ago, Reddick pleaded guilty to a single count of attempted first-degree murder and received a 26-year sentence, of which he would have to serve at least 85 percent. Reddick tried to withdraw his guilty plea saying that the plea wasn’t made knowingly and voluntarily. He also alleged his counsel was ineffective. But Judge Richard Gambrell didn’t buy that argument. The Judge noted from the court transcript that the judge at sentencing, Raymond Cavanaugh, painstakingly followed rules to assure Reddick understood his rights. State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin anticipates that Reddick will appeal the court’s decision.
