Former Galesburg City Council member Lindsay Hillery last week was sentenced to about 180 days in jail on a meth possession charge.
It’s the same traffic stop that lead to Hillery’s resignation from the Council in July of 2021.
43-year-old Hillery’s sentencing follows being found guilty at a bench trial in May by Judge Richard Gambrell.
Hillery was represented by Knox County Public Defender Dan O’Brien, and her defense was that the meth officers found in a cigarette pack inside her car didn’t belong to her.
Gambrell handed down a sentence almost a half-year long, with Hillery only getting credit for 6 days served.
She will also be on probation for two years.
Hillery was previously convicted on a DUI charge in 2019 and was arrested for battery in 2021, shortly before her council resignation. That misdemeanor charge was dropped by prosecutors.
