
The Galesburg Fire Department and Galesburg Police responded to a fire late Sunday, August 21st, in the 2700 block of Springer Road on the east end of Galesburg. Dispatch informed officers of the structure fire in a parking lot where the overhang was fully engulfed in flames and numerous vehicles underneath were damaged. Galesburg Fire personnel were already on the scene containing the blaze. According to police reports, five vehicles were fully engulfed, numerous other vehicles across the lot were damaged, and the apartment building – Bridlecreek Apartments suffered damage. Residents in the area told police that two male subjects were seen departing the area through the woods. One female resident reported intentional damage done to her vehicle due to an ongoing dispute with family members. The female told police all the windows of her vehicle were broken out after a dispute and threats from a family member. The female’s vehicle was found to have a rag hanging from the gas tank. The apartment building does not have any working security cameras nor do any residents. According to a press release from the City of Galesburg: “There were no injuries reported. Five passenger vehicles and a motorcycle were determined to be a total loss from the fire. Two additional vehicles were damaged by the fire and half of the parking structure was destroyed. Preliminary damage estimates are at $275,000.” Galesburg Fire Investigators arrived on the scene and the incident remains under investigation.
