Galesburg delays approval of new city manager

Galesburg will have to wait at least a few more weeks to hire a new city manager.

Mayor Peter Schwartzman tells WGIL News a resolution to approve the vacant city manager position will not be included on the agenda for Monday’s City Council Meeting. Earlier this week, the mayor said an offer had been made to an unidentified candidate and he hoped it could be voted on Monday.

Schwartzman had no further comment on the city manager search, except to say “details are still being ironed out.”

The mayor said the city manager vacancy could be considered at a special meeting before a council work session on Sept. 26.

The city received 32 applications for the city manager position left vacant when Todd Thompson departed for a similar job in Rock Island. A resolution to approve a new city manager was listed on the Sept. 6 council agenda, however the candidate withdrew their acceptance prior to the meeting, according to Schwartzman.
