Galesburg Police last week, October 24th, while on routine patrol, came upon a van parked with its lights on in the 600 block of Clark Street. According to police reports, with a recent rash of vehicle burglaries in the area, officers wanted to ascertain why the car was parked with lights on. It was around 3:20 in the morning at the time. Police approached the vehicle and made contact with a 19-year-old female and a 23-year-old male in a state of undress in the backseat as if they were about to get intimate. Officers detected a strong cannabis odor coming from the van. A search of the van turned up an empty bottle of Crown Royal, another half-empty small plastic bottle of Crown Royal, and a clear baggie containing cannabis. Both the male and the female have suspended driver’s licenses, and both admitted it was the male that was driving. The male said it was a college van and denied ownership of the contraband. The male subject was placed under arrest. He was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
