Tuesday/Saturday: Discovery Depot Hosts Programming for Kids & Adults
Visit Discovery Depot Children’s Museum to learn through fun! Outside of their usual programming, the museum is hosting “Why is Voting Important” on Election Day (11/8), from 1 to 3 p.m. Free with admission, kids can create a “Future Voter” pin and a Duck for President craft. Then, on Science Saturday, children can create color-changing slime, learning what causes the slime to change colors, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Parents Night Out – Shrek Style from 6 to 8 p.m. Ages 5 to 10 can craft, play games, and eat pizza with their parents. Wednesday: An Evening with Fran Lebowitz
Renowned writer, humorist, and style icon Fran Lebowitz will be taking The Orpheum Theatre stage for one night only at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. Tickets are on sale at the Box Office or via The Orpheum Theatre website starting at $35. This appearance will feature an onstage interview with Lebowitz, conducted by retired local radio favorite Terry Cavanaugh, followed by a Q&A session with the audience, concluding the evening with a book signing in the lobby. Thursday: Knox College Ensemble Concert at Jazz Night
The Knox Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Just Haynes, will kick off Jazz Night at the Galesburg Community Arts Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11. Then, Jason Brannon’s Combo and Knox Cherry Street Combo will take center stage, all for free! Concert-goers are encouraged to carryout food from a local restaurant and have dinner while the music plays, with drinks available at the site.
Saturday: Casey Foubert Release Party at The Box
Multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer and current 43 year-old, nontraditional Knox student, Casey Foubert will celebrate the release of his first EP with a show on Saturday, Nov. 12 at The Box Art Gallery, at 306 ½ E. Simmons Street in Galesburg. He will be joined by Nikki Malley on vibes, Andy Crawford on bass, Deline Liang on keyboard, and Zoe Rose and Sunshine Regiacorte on vocals. Sunday: Songbag Concert Series: Charlie Hayes
Enjoy an afternoon of music with Charlie Hayes! A multi-instrumentalist, Charlie’s set will include classic songs on acoustic guitar and piano. His appearance will be the final performance of the 2022 Songbag Concert Series at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site at 313 E. 3 rd Street. The first set starts at 2 p.m. and the second set follows at 3:15 p.m. Refreshments will be available in between sets. Suggested donation is $5.
