This week the ribbon will officially be cut on the Galesburg branch of the River Bend Food Bank which now encompasses the FISH Food Pantry.
Construction and major renovations took place over the better part of 2022 to the former Rheinschmidt’s Carpet store on the corner of Main and Henderson Sts.
There will be facility tours that begin at 11:00 am, to which the public is invited.
Formal remarks by key community leaders like Mayor Peter Schwartzman and a Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting will follow at 12:00pm
Officials with River Bend say the inclusion of the FISH Pantry inside the facility allows Knox County residents facing hunger to have greater access to support while helping the pantry increase the foods available to those in need.
The Galesburg Community Foundation purchased the building in December of 2020 as a Mission Impact Investment.
The location was selected after years of monitoring available real estate opportunities and assessment of the community’s need for increased hunger-relief support.
Tune in at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday for Galesburg’s Morning News on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL to hear more from FISH Food Pantry Director Elizabeth Culbertson, GCF Director Josh Gibb, and River Bend site manager Aaron Barton.
