A lucky winner turned a scratch-off lottery ticket into much more than 200 times their $30 investment recently at Galesburg grocery store.

As reported earlier this month, the Galesburg Hy-Vee Store on National Boulevard sold an Illinois scratch-off ticket that resulted in $3 million prize for the lucky winner. The winner paid $30 for the “200X” game ticket.

Illinois Lottery spokesperson Jennifer Born told WGIL on Monday the winner collected a lump sum payment of $1.8 million on Nov. 2 at a lottery claim center. The winner requested to remain anonymous. The Illinois Lottery allows lottery winners of $250,000 or more to keep their identity confidential.

The winner had the option of taking annual payments of $150,000 for 20 years, or a one-time cash payment of $1.8 million. The winnings were subjected to a 24% federal tax on gambling winners, and US tax residents must pay a top rate of 37% on annual earnings over $539,900.

According to the Illinois Lottery website, the “200X” game offers prizes ranging from $30 to $3 million for the $30 ticket. The odds to win one of three $3 million prizes was 1 in 1,120,000.

The Hy-Vee on National Boulevard receives 1%, or $18,000 for selling the winning ticket.
