Galesburg Fire responded to a structure fire on Tuesday night at Derby Industries.

Crews were dispatched just before 7:30 p.m. to 1033 Enterprise Drive.

All three stations and 11 personnel on duty responded to the building where smoke could be seen coming from a large self-contained trash compactor and the building.

The warehouse is about 200,000 sq. ft.

Captain Jeff Maher and his crew made their way through with a thermal imaging camera since the entire structure was heavily filled with smoke.

Using this method crews found the fire inside the compactor.

The sprinkler system activated and kept the fire from spreading through the rest of the structure, although there was some damage to an interior wall.

Berg’s Towing was called to haul away the compactor and crews completed extinguishing the fire.

Preliminary damage estimates stand at $10,000 with Galesburg Fire personnel still investigating the cause.
