Monmouth is sending their Christmas gift to the community early with their Christmas at Monmouth concert this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Professor Tim Pahel who directs the choir and chorale, calls it one of the “highlights” of the year for the Monmouth music department.

Also performing will be the Concert Choir, directed by Tom Clark, and on the instrumental side, there’s the Wind Ensemble and Monmouth Civic Orchestra, directed by Justin Swearinger and Rich Cangro respectively.

Pahel says between all the ensembles there are about 65 singers and 65 instrumentalists, who at the end will all come together.

Pahel says that the choir will sing selections well beyond just the traditional Christmas Carols.

The Chorale will do ‘A Haitian Noel’ in Haitian French, and a Renaissance piece by Tomas Luis de Victoria, which talks about Mary.

The Wind Ensemble is doing a beautiful piece that includes ‘Greensleeves,’ but it also has various other melodies.

Pahel says the Civic Orchestra is doing a fun arrangement of ‘Sleigh Ride.

The concert is in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium Saturday and is free to the public.
