Last Thursday, December 1st, a 74-year-old East Galesburg man who works at HyVee on East Main Street spoke with Galesburg Police after the man realized he left his wallet behind at the store while at the self-checkout and someone was using his debit card. The man told police someone used his card to make purchases in the amounts of around $60 and $38. The man also had a print-out from his bank which indicated the person attempted to make numerous transactions from his debit card to a cash app and was denied each time. Bank employees informed officers of a female associated with the denied transaction. As it turns out, the female subject had her cash app card stolen as well. Galesburg Police viewed security video of the incident at HyVee where two women can be seen taking the man’s wallet and then using it to make purchases at the store. Due to previous encounters, officers were able to almost immediately identify the two females as a 28-year-old Galesburg woman and a 39-year-old Galesburg woman. The two women were added to the GPD’s pending arrest list and are facing Felony charges of Unlawful Use of a Credit Card and Theft of less than $300.
