Marjorie Lucille Williams, 100, of Avon, Illinois passed away at 1:27 PM Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton, IL.

She was born December 28, 1921, in Oneida, IL to Benjamin and Stella Nelson. She married Richard “Dick” Williams on June 29, 1952, in Altona, IL. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2014.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Dan (Nancy) Williams of Smithfield, daughter, Jane (Frank) Mellert of Canton, grandchildren, Julie (Sam) Serven of St. Augustine, Keith (Taryn) Mellert of Canton, Vanessa Williams (fiancée Lucas Hanke) of Carlyle, Daniel Williams of Smithfield, great-grandchildren, Ellie Serven, Hayes, Grace and Claire Mellert and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Ray (Miriam) Nelson and Claire Nelson.

Marjorie attended 1st through 6th grade at McKee School. Next, she attended Oneida Grade School for the 7th and 8th grades before graduating from Oneida High School in 1939. Marjorie is always eager to learn then attended Browns Business College in Peoria. After College, she worked for Bemis Bag Company and later for the Federal Land Bank in Galesburg. Over the years Marjorie has served on the Fulton County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, been active in the HEA (Homemakers Extension Association) program, and in the Bushnell United Methodist Church.

Marjorie was proud of her Swedish ancestry. She was a direct descendant of Swedish emigrants. Marjorie lived in her own home for 100 years. She was a true farm wife, lending a hand whenever needed. She always maintained a large yard and garden and was a master of food preservation. Marjorie was an excellent cook. Her family especially loved her chocolate chip cookies and homemade cinnamon rolls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, where visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Pastor Dustin Biggs will officiate. Interment will be in the Bushnell Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bushnell United Methodist Church.
