Galesburg City Council on Monday can approve architectural/engineering services for the long-awaited improvements to HT Custer Park.

The contract is in the amount of about $78,000, although half of the cost is covered by the State of Illinois’ Open Space and Land Acquisition Development Grant.

The grant award includes funds for architectural/engineering services to complete the design development, construction documents, and bidding services for the project.

The scope of the improvements to the HT includes constructing new restroom facilities, a new shelter, a new playground, a walking path around the park, a youth bike training area, and parking lot improvements near the baseball field, along with a rain garden and butterfly waystation.

Farnsworth Group was the selected firm based on their prior experience on similar projects, their proposed approach to the work, and their capability to meet the project Schedule.

Farnsworth has worked with the city several times in the past, recently on a study of four proposed community center sites.

It is anticipated that the project will be bid out in the Spring of 2023 and construction of the improvements will be completed in the Fall of 2023.
