
EUREKA, Illinois – The Prairie Fire women’s basketball team earned a 74-66 win at Eureka College on Friday afternoon. The Red Devils took an early 5-2 lead, but Knox used a 15-0 run to take a 17-5 lead. The Prairie Fire held a 23-12 advantage after the first quarter. Knox maintained their double-digit lead through the remainder of the first half, leading by as many as 19. The Prairie Fire were ahead 41-27 at halftime. Eureka chipped away at the lead in the third quarter, working the deficit down to just eight points. Knox retained a 10 point lead at the end of the third period. The Red Devils scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and eventually took a 60-58 lead. The Prairie Fire used a 7-1 run to retake the lead and held on for the victory.
Kristin Herndon led Knox with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots. Kylee Callahan tallied 13 points and seven boards. Catessa Duran added 12 points and six rebounds and Sarina Dacio and Sophie Elstone tacked on 11 points apiece. “We were firing on all cylinders in the first half,” said head coach Kira Mowen. “We fell apart in the second half, but we picked our play back up when we needed it most to find a way to win.” The Prairie Fire return to action on December 30 as they travel to the University of Chicago.
