GALESBURG, Illinois – Knox College Women’s Basketball got off to a hot start in the new year with a big 89-54 conference win against the Lake Forest College Foresters. Knox started off well in the first half and had a comfortable 13-point lead at halftime. They brought an even stronger second half outscoring the Foresters by 22 to run away with the victory and move to 4-0 in league play. The Prairie Fire are currently tied for first place with Cornell.

Sarina Dacio led the scoring with 18 points while going 4-for-5 from long-range. A few other players scored double digits as well. Kristin Herndon totaled 16 points and also hauled in 9 rebounds. Sophie Elstone added 13 points and Kylee Callahan tallied 12.

Three-pointers really propelled the Fire forward as they shot over 50% from behind the line, 8-for-15 overall. In total, they shot above 50% on all field goals, another great key to their success.

This was a great team win to start ’23. We had 4 people in double figures and 2 others that were close behind,” said head coach Kira Mowen. “We were able to find minutes for everyone on the roster. There are a few tiny fixes that must be worked on this week. When I challenged the team at halftime they came out in the second half and made up for some inefficiencies that we had the first 20 minutes. If we keep putting full games together on a more consistent level great things will happen for this team this year!”

The Prairie Fire will play their next game on January 11 as they host the Cornell College Rams in a conference match at home as they try to keep their undefeated run in the MWC alive.
