At approximately 3:15 in the morning on Friday, Galesburg police responded to OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center for a female victim of an assault. Officers met with a 37-year-old woman who had swelling and black and blue bruising all over her face and wrists as well as blood coming from one of her eyes.  The woman said she picked up a 32-year-old male friend and brought him to her apartment and started drinking. The woman would later tell police that her and the man are “friends with benefits.” She said the man was acting agitated and aggressive towards her, and at one point attacked the woman. The woman said the man began repeatedly punching her in the face and then kicked her repeatedly in the ribs and back. The man then got on top of her and began choking her and said he was “going to kill her” according to police reports. The woman said the man then got up, made a phone call to presumably his girlfriend, and left with the woman’s cellphones, wallet, and apartment key. The female victim told police she thought the man’s “baby mama” got upset that they were seeing each other. The woman crawled to the apartment’s community room and someone called 911.  The female victim was transported to OSF St. Francis where she was treated for a brain bleed, skull fracture, and an eye socket fracture. The male suspect was added to the GPD’s pending arrest list and is facing charges of Aggravated Battery causing Great Bodily Harm and Theft.
