GALESBURG, Illinois – The Knox College Men’s Basketball team suffered a very hard fought 74-72 point loss to the Lake Forest College Foresters. Lake Forest took a two-point lead into the half and that is the exact lead that they kept until the end of the game. Knox did take a 57-53 lead midway through the second half, but the Foresters quickly took back control. Lake Forest led 71-63 with 2:15 to play. Knox chipped away at the lead over the final minutes, but a Matt Garife trey in the final seconds left the Prairie Fire just short.

Despite Sean Gallery’s best efforts, the Fire could not quite get it done. He had 17 points and 10 rebounds while playing 36 minutes, almost no rest for the Prairie Fire forward in his double-double effort. Garife added 12 points on 4-of-5 from long-range. Jordan Rayner tallied 11 points.

“We battled back the whole game,” said head coach Ben Davis. “Sean played very well and Matt was hot from three to keep us in the game when we really needed it, but we came up just short. I am proud of the effort we put in tonight and look forward to using this as a jumping off point for the rest of the season.”

The Fire’s next game will be on January 11th against the Cornell College Rams. They will be following the women’s team and hoping to get a clean sweep on the night of the Rams.
