Amtrak will resume morning train service between Quincy and Chicago — with stops in Galesburg — on Monday, according to its website. The service was suspended on Nov. 16 due to staffing issues.
Amtrak trains 380 leaving Galesburg at 7:37 a.m. and 381 leaving Chicago at 7:35 a.m. have been canceled since mid November and replaced with chartered buses as alternate transportation.
‘It’s going to be a struggle’: Galesburg tourism, business officials lament loss of Amtrak service
At the time, Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari said the collective bargaining agreement between Amtrak and union employees allows employees to choose their work routes based on seniority. He said enough senior employees had chosen other routes that Amtrak had to make the decision to cancel scheduled trains.
The morning routes between Galesburg and Chicago can now be booked at Amtrak.com.
