Annual creative writing contest now accepting entries

The Galesburg Public Library announces the Big Write, the library’s annual creative writing contest is accepting entries.

Short stories and poetry/song lyrics are being accepted from adults and those in 9th-12th, 7th-8th, and 3rd-6th grades.

Nonfiction essays are also being accepted from adults only. Cash prizes of $20-$50 will be awarded to up to three winners in each age group and category.

Submissions do not have to be written exclusively for the Big Write, and writers who live outside Galesburg and the Knox County area are welcome to submit entries.

Materials may be emailed, dropped off in person at the library, dropped in the library’s outdoor book drop, or mailed to Writing Contest, Galesburg Public Library, 40 E Simmons St, Galesburg, IL 61401.

Submission guidelines and complete details can be found at the library’s website under the Events & Programs tab and at the Galesburg Public Library’s Reference and Children’s Desks.

The submission deadline is Monday, March 20th. Contest winners only will be notified in early April, and a list of winners will be available at the library.

A reception for winners, entrants, friends, family, and the community is scheduled for April 29.
