Maryanne Goethals of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 5:23 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

Maryanne was born on November 1, 1943, in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Willard and Sadie (Fields) Cofield. She attended and graduated from the former Corpus Christi Catholic High School in Galesburg, Illinois, she then received her RN at the former St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois. She married Larry Goethals on April 6, 1968, in Rock Island, Illinois.

Surviving is her husband, Larry Goethals of Galesburg, Illinois, and a daughter Susanne Goethals of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Jean (Rich) Bouhl of Colorado and two brothers: Pat (Ellie) Cofield of Illinois and Mike (Sandy) Cofield of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Tom and John.

An obstetrics nurse for 35 years, Maryanne worked at the former St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island and at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was held in high regard by her peers and the doctors with whom she worked. A loving and proud mother, one of her proudest moments was seeing her daughter receive her doctorate from Vanderbilt University. She was also an owner, breeder, and handler of Rottweilers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and French Bulldogs. Several of her dogs were award-winning, including a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that won Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2009. She was a member of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in East Moline, Illinois. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.
