Dunkin’ is one step closer to serving coffee drinks and its wide assortment of donuts in Galesburg.

A group which owns more than 100 Dunkin’ stores nationally has recently submitted site plans to build a Dunkin’ restaurant at 951 N. Henderson St. in Galesburg. According to plans WGIL obtained from the city of Galesburg, the business would include inside seating and a drive-thru window. Site plan drawings show signage that indicates Dunkin’ would share space with Baskin Robins ice cream.

The much-anticipated arrival of the world’s leading baked goods and coffee chain gained traction last August when QC Galesburg Properties LLC purchased property at 951 and 969 N. Henderson St.

The vacant lot at 951 N. Henderson St. is the site of the former Steak House restaurant. The adjoining lot at 969 N. Henderson St. was most recently the location of a psychic readings business. The structure would be demolished to make room for Dunkin’.

The site planned was submitted by Steve Kolber of Kolbrook Design, an Evanston design firm that has constructed numerous Dunkin’ restaurants.

Kolber said the owner will have an official announcement on Dunkin’ coming to  Galesburg once permits are secured.

“The team is working diligently to secure permits, and more information will be coming,” Kolber said.

The site plan shows the building would be 2,520 square feet in size. Vehicles would enter on the south side of the property, while walk-in patrons would enter Dunkin’ through a door on the west side, facing Henderson Street. A drive-thru menu board and order station would be located at the rear of the property, and the pickup/pay window would be on the north side of the building — next to Lim’s Ice Cream.

Steve Gugliotta, Director of Community Development for the City of Galesburg, said the Development Review Committee reviewed the site plans Thursday and requested some clarification on some minor issues from the engineer.

The next step, according to Gugliotta, would be for the developer to send construction plans to the city for review and permits.

Dunkin’ has nearby locations in Peoria, the Quad Cities, Canton, Macomb and Burlington, Iowa.

Founded in 1950, Dunkin’ is the world’s leading baked goods and coffee chain, serving more than 3 million customers each and every day. They offer 50-plus varieties of doughnuts, but they also serve dozens of premium beverages, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.
