Knox County’s labor force fell to another all-time low in December, after November had record-low numbers. The number of people that are currently working or seeking work is 12 percent below what it was 5 years ago or about 2,500 fewer people. The unemployment rate dipped to 5 percent shaving off point 4 percent from the previous month. That’s still above the Illinois average rate of 4.4 percent and the national rate of 3.3 percent. Knox’s unemployment is noticeably higher than most neighboring counties including Warren at 3.6, Henderson at 3.5, Henry at 3.7 percent, McDonough at 3.3 percent, and Mercer at 3.9 percent. Generally speaking, the West Central Region of Illinois is one of the areas of the state with the lowest unemployment, while the Northern Stateline and the Northeast have the highest rates.
