Galesburg Police responded to the 1500 block of Saluda Road on Sunday for reports of a running vehicle sitting in the roadway with no lights on. Officers arrived and observed the vehicle with a male driver and a male passenger in the back seat. The driver, a 25-year-old Dunlap man, asked why police were talking to him since he was parked and just socializing with the other man he had met online. Officers advised the man he was sitting in the middle of the roadway. Police also observed numerous open containers of alcohol inside the car. Police then discovered the man’s license was suspended and the registration had expired. The man’s backseat passenger was also under the age of 21 and he was issued a citation. Police found a container of cannabis wax on the man. A field sobriety test back at the Public Safety Building indicated signs of impairment – the man also admitted to drinking and driving that night. The man was charged with DUI – Intoxicating Compound, DUI – License suspended, Driving on a Suspended License, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Improper Parking on the Roadway. He was taken to the Knox County Jail.

Sunday, around 1:00 in the morning, Galesburg Police responded to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of North Farnham and East Losey Streets. When first responders arrived, the male driver was unconscious behind the wheel – but had regained consciousness by the time additional officers arrived. Police made contact with the 32-year-old driver who admitted to police he had been drinking and officers should “just arrest him so he could get the process over with.” The man was emitting a strong alcoholic odor. Officers had the man conduct a field sobriety test back at the Public Safety Building due to frigid cold temperatures. The man displayed numerous signs of impairment. The man then voluntarily provided a breath sample which read his BAC as .182. The man, from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky told police he started drinking at Applebee’s and then visited numerous bars in the area – but wasn’t sure which ones since he is from out of town. He said he was following individuals to an unknown residence, but couldn’t remember driving. The man was charged with DUI A1 and DUI A2 and was transported to the Knox County Jail.
