A Galesburg man pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted murder last week in exchange for other charges being dropped.20-year-old Dakota L. Taylor was given 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and credit for 245 days served. Charges that include aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property were dismissed. The State alleged that Taylor stabbed a woman in the face in June of 2022 with a pair of scissors and then punched and kicked her as she lay on the ground. The victim was taken to a hospital to treat her injuries. A driver observed the incident, got out of his car, and threatened Taylor with a hammer until he dropped the scissors. Soon after law enforcement arrived on the scene they took Taylor into custody.
