The City of Galesburg has been awarded a grant from the State of Illinois that will fund a comprehensive operations analysis of the city’s public transportation system.

$150,000 in funds are being provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation with no local match required.

It’s a two-year grant that will analyze demand, conduct a passenger use survey, and assess opportunities for expansion and collaboration.

All the parameters of the study are set by IDOT, and the City will work with IDOT to select a consulting firm that will complete the study.

Transit Manager Kraig Boynton calls this, “a wonderful opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of our public transportation system.”

He says, “The insights and in-depth analysis ascertained by the consultant will provide the City and IDOT with the needed information to make informed decisions, and successfully plan for the future of public transportation in Galesburg.”

The City of Galesburg offers both fixed-route bus services and paratransit services. The fixed route bus service operates Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:15 p.m., and information on routes, fares, and additional information can be found on the city’s website.
