
A Galesburg man is facing a slew of serious charges after Galesburg Police responded to a fight in progress in Park Plaza just after midnight Sunday morning. Officers arrived at the parking lot and observed four black males had surrounded a fifth male subject and were battering him. The four dispersed and began walking away as officers approached. One male subject took off running and GPD gave chase on foot. The 50-year-old victim told police the fight started over “nothing” and didn’t give many details, according to police reports. He did not know his attackers.
One of the assailants, a 32-year-old Galesburg man was detained by police as he attempted to flee. The suspect broke his ankle in the parking lot trying to flee and dropped a handgun. While being detained, the male suspect bit an officer on the hand. The man was transported to OSF for his injury and then to the Knox County Jail by State Police. The man has a felony conviction from 2014 for the delivery of a controlled substance. He was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery in a Public Place, a felony charge of Resisting, Violation of the FOID Card Act, being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
