Galesburg man charged after attempting to break into a church; another church burglarized

Galesburg Police about mid-morning on Sunday while patrolling the 2200 block of Windish Drive, observed a male climbing up the side of a building and throwing glass down to the ground. Police have had numerous dealings recently with the 62-year-old male subject. The man was standing on a doorknob and attempting to unlock a door at the Community Temple of God Church. When police made contact with the man he said he was trying to get “spirits” out of the building. He was then detained and arrested. The man was charged with Burglary to a School or Place of Worship, Criminal Trespassing, and a Class 4 Felony charge of Criminal Damage over $500.

Galesburg Police are also investigating a burglary at First Church of the Nazarene in the 1500 block of Webster Street. A garage was broken into and taken was a Husqvarna Zero-turn mower, an MTD walk-behind mower, and three string trimmers stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
