Mr. Andrew DeWitt Morrissey, 78 of Galesburg, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Seminary Manor.
He was born Friday, April 14, 1944, in Galesburg, the son of the late Harry DeWitt and Elizabeth Marie (Poole) Morrissey. He married Bonnie Jean Hankins in 1962. Andrew later married Verna Sue Rose on July 18, 1970. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2013.
Surviving are his five children, Teri Ann Daly of Phoenix, Arizona. Andrew Michael (Angela) Morrissey of Tampa, Florida, Sherry Lynn (Dave) Cook of Galesburg, Tammy Sue (Paul) Miller of Silvis, and Wayne Anthony “Tony” (Tracey) Morrissey. Also surviving are many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and grandchild.
Andrew graduated from Galesburg High School with the class of 63′. He spent over thirty years as a maintenance engineer at Maytag before his retirement. He was also a volunteer sheriff for 12 years. Andrew enjoyed the New Windsor Gun Club and had a lifelong passion for racecar driving.
Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 5-7 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Oneida Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
