Construction on bridge over US 34 between Galesburg and Monmouth starting on Monday, lasting to September

Work is getting started next week on a bridge between Monmouth and Galesburg.

It was announced Wednesday by the Illinois Department of Transportation that the 140th Street Bridge in Warren County, also known as Cameron Road, will be going under construction starting Monday, March 27.

The work will involve the replacement of bridge joints, patching, and resurfacing of 140th Street. While work is underway, 140th Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions with traffic controlled by temporary signals. Intermittent lane closures also will be necessary for pier repairs.  Work is expected to be completed by September.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

The release from IDOT does not disclose if travelers on US 34 will experience lane closures at any point during the work.
