GALESBURG, Illinois – The Knox softball team dropped two against Grinnell in their conference opener.

Game one began with a scoreless first few innings, with both teams battling to score first. Grinnell pushed across one run in the top of the third. Grinnell continued to string hits together and scored an additional six runs in the top of the fourth. The Prairie Fire battled but ultimately fell short and lost game one 9-0.

Grinnell carried their momentum from game one and began game two with eleven runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the second the Prairie Fire needed to score some runs, and junior Taylynn Kizer did exactly that. A two run homerun from Kizer put Knox on the board. Knox ended up falling short, unable to score any more runs for the rest of the game. The Prairie Fire lost game two 12-2.

Haylee Carpenter led the team with three hits for the day. Lacey Miller and Eileen Sheetz add two hits each.

“We fell short today, Grinnell is a big hitting team,” said head coach Erin Clark. “But we are also a big hitting team and I was happy to see Tay send one out today. We are going to continue to work hard and learn as a team as we prepare for another tough conference team next week.”

The Prairie Fire will continue conference play on April 7th at Lake Forest.
