
Galesburg Fire responded to a structure fire on Thursday just before noon. with preliminary damage estimates at $2,000.
A release from the City of Galesburg says that occupants of the home on the 1000 block of Chamberlain St. were not present at the time of the fire.
Firefighters were alerted by a call from a neighbor who heard the smoke alarm sounding.
The neighbors also assisted by removing two dogs from the residence prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.
The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty.
Upon arrival, a small fire was located above the stove in the kitchen.
Galesburg Fire Investigators classified the cause of the fire to be unintentional.
