Phyllis Ann Kettering, 86, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Courtyard Estates of Monmouth, Monmouth, IL.

She was born on August 23, 1936, in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Orin S. and Dorothy (Sunderland) Lanphere.  Phyllis was raised and educated in Kirkwood and graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1954.  She later graduated from Monmouth College in 1958 with a degree in Latin and secondary education.

Phyllis married Donald W. Kettering on July 29, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Monmouth; he preceded her in death on April 2, 2012.

Phyllis was an educator at Warren School, Achievement Industries, and Roseville Elementary School.  She enjoyed sewing, crafting, reading, and gardening. Phyllis was very involved in 4-H. She also volunteered at the Monmouth Hospital for many years.  She always enjoyed learning and she and Don took several classes at Carl Sandburg College.  Phyllis was a member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth and was very involved in the church.  Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving Phyllis are two daughters, Ann (David) Sincox of Holt, MI, and Laura (Tom) Everly of Avon, IL; her grandchildren, Tad (Samantha Holland) Sincox of Columbus, OH Abby (Jake) Bachrodt of Mission, KS, and Audrey (Brandon) Cooley of Champaign, IL; one great-grandson, Brady Lee Bachrodt of Mission, KS.  Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one granddaughter, Esther Ann Sincox.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at the First Christian Church, Monmouth, IL.  Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Monmouth.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
