
The George Washington Gale Scholars Program has announced the induction of its newest class, the Gale Scholars Class of 2027.
The 11 Galesburg District 205 students selected for the program include:

- Maddie Coe
- Jocilyn Davidson
- Ava George
- Evelin Guel
- Macie Jordan
- Anayely Pacheco
- Alliyah Rice
- Cordae Sanchez
- Devaughn Sanchez
- Laniyah Sanchez
The Gale Scholars induction ceremony was Tuesday at Galesburg High School’s Little Theater.
Gale Scholars will receive a tuition free college education at Carl Sandburg and Knox College if they meet the programs requirements, which include achieving academic standards, participation in extracurricular activities, performing community service and enrolling in four years of summer school. The program is open to any Galesburg 8th grade student. To become a Gale Scholar, a student must be a potential first generation college graduate. Criteria for eligibility is also based on income need, high academic performance and citizenship.
Gale Scholars Director Steve Cheesman said, “It is an honor and a privilege to announce a new class of Gale Scholars, the Class of 2027. These students will add much to this prestigious program. They went through a very rigorous selection process and have impressed all of us with their intelligence, determination, work ethic and imagination.
“We look forward to helping them achieve their dreams. We extend our most sincere congratulations to each one of them for this wonderful accomplishment. I would like to extend my thanks to our terrific selection committee, Amy Burford and DeVone Eurales. Their work with this endeavor was superior.”
