Two Galesburg subjects arrested on gun and drug charges

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for two Galesburg residents on gun and drug charges after their arrest this week in East Galesburg.

According to a release from Knox County Sheriff Jack Harlan, Deputies with the sheriff’s office attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in East Galesburg on Wednesday when the vehicle attempted to evade deputies and began driving erratically.

The vehicle left the roadway and entered a wooded area where the driver and passenger both left the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office K9 was deployed along with deputies and the passenger, 28-year-old Steven L. Wallace, was apprehended. The driver, 24-year-old Heaven L. Sundberg, was located and taken into custody at a residence in East Galesburg.

Subsequent to the search of the vehicle, multiple firearms, including assault rifles, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and methamphetamine were allegedly located in the vehicle.

Both subjects were transported to the Knox County Jail and made bond hearings on Thursday. Wallace’s bond was set at $25,000. The bond for Sundberg was set at $7,500.

The public defender’s office was appointed for both individuals and they’ll make preliminary hearings in Knox County Circuit Court on June 12.

Sundberg is facing four felony charges:

  • Armed Violence (Class X)
  • Possession of Meth less than 5 grams (Class 3)
  • Aggravated Fleeing (Class 4)
  • Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4)

Wallace is facing three felony charges:

  • Armed Violence (Class X)
  • Felon in Possession of a Weapon (Class 3)
  • Possession of Meth less than 5 grams (Class 3)
