Standout Streaks: Meet the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023

Four former Silver Streaks, a state-qualifying team and a longtime media member represent the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

The new Hall of Fame members are:

  • Peyton Isaacson (‘15), baseball
  • Brenna Saline (‘07), girls basketball
  • Jason Shay (‘91), boys basketball
  • Michael Perez (‘82), football
  • Mike Trueblood, Friends of Athletics
  • 2014 Boys Golf Team

The five individuals and one team will be enshrined at an induction ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 in the GHS Hegg Performance Arts Center. This celebration will be taking place in conjunction with the Girls & Boys Basketball Thanksgiving Tournaments. At the conclusion of the induction ceremony, inductees will be introduced between the girls and boys Thanksgiving tournament games.

Isaacson was a standout baseball player for the Silver Streaks and went on to play at Coastal Carolina where the Chanticleers won the 2016 College World Series.

Saline graduated from Galesburg in 2007 as one of the school’s all-time leading scorers in girls basketball history.

Shay surpassed 1,000 career points for the Silver Streaks and was a walk-on basketball player for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He has been a respected NCAA Division I assistant coach for many years and is currently the special assistant to the head coach at Wake Forest University.

Perez was a standout lineman for the Silver Streaks. He entered the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame last November as a member of the 1980 Streaks football team.

Trueblood worked in the sports department at The Register-Mail for 45 years. He was the sports editor for 40 years.

The 2014-15 Silver Streaks boys golf team won regional and sectional championships en route to placing third at the IHSA Class 2A state tournament.
