Galesburg CUSD #205 school board approves changes to sports pass fees

New-GHS

Sports fans in District 205 will pay a little more for their sports passes in the next school year.
The Board of Education approved a number of changes to the various passes offered to spectators of Galesburg High School sporting events.
For starters, board members approved an increase in the All-Sports pass from $75 to $100 and increased both the girl’s and boys’ basketball passes from $40 to $50.
Athletic Director Eric Matthews recommenced eliminating the football season pass, citing low demand, and creating a Junior High sports pass that would cost $50.
However, board members wanted a pass that would allow spectators to every junior high and high school game in the district. Pamella Bess-Tabb suggested creating a pass that would allow spectators into both high school and jr. high events.
“Everyone is all in one building now, so is it possible that we really look at fast-forwarding that to one pass? Just cause that’s the feedback that I’ve gotten.”
Matthews had said he was bringing the jr. high pass to the table as a starting place to gauge interest.
There was also talk of eliminating the different boy’s and girl’s basketball passes and having a single basketball pass. However, Matthews said that the boy’s passes come with assigned seating and the girl’s one does not, creating a possible logistical issue.
Approved was Matthews’ proposal of increasing the price for both basketball passes and the high school all-sports pass, as well as the creation of the junior high all-sports pass.
Additionally, a ‘gold’ pass was to be created that would allow spectators to get into all jr. high and high school games would also be created. It would cost $125.
The changes were approved on a 5-1 vote with board member Rod Scherpe dissenting and Rodney Phelps absent.
