WINNETKA, Ill. (AP) — A Chicago-area man jumped from a boat into Lake Michigan to help at least one child who fell off a raft but eventually went underwater and later died. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 43-year-old Luke Laidley of Winnetka. A spokeswoman for the office says an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. He died at a hospital in Evanston. WMAQ-TV quotes witnesses as saying that Laidley ended up going underwater Tuesday before others pulled him back onto the boat.
