Galesburg Police yesterday responded to U-Haul in the 1100 block of Carl Sandburg Drive after a rented truck wasn’t returned. Officers met with an employee who said a 35-year-old Galesburg man rented a 20ft U-Haul truck back on June 6th for one day and had not returned it. At the time of the report, it had been 28 days. Officers spoke to the male suspect on the phone who said “A guy was going to return it” and then hung up on officers. By yesterday afternoon, Galesburg Police were notified by the O’Fallon, Missouri Police Department that the UHaul had been located in a Walmart parking lot in O’Fallon. A 27-year-old Galesburg man and a 40-year-old Galesburg woman were inside the UHaul at the time. According to police reports, the truck had not been reported stolen at the time of the traffic stop in Missouri. The vehicle was undamaged and would be returned to Galesburg. U-Haul did not want the vehicle processed if there was no damage. More charges for those involved could be coming pending a further investigation.
