A software issue that had put a halt on students getting registered for school at Galesburg CUSD 205 appears to be working now.
That’s according to District Superintendent John Asplund, who told WGIL in an email on Monday that about half of the families in the district had not re-registered their children for school for the next academic year.
District 205 had undergone a Skyward system update this summer to keep its software operational.
“We elected to stay with Skyward and go with the upgrade,” Asplund told board members on July 10. “And as part of that, there is a shutdown portion in there to make sure all of the systems are working and it’s taking longer than we would care for it to take. But, we are at the mercy of Skyward at this point.”
Asplund told the board at the time of the July meeting that the district had delayed the update for three years. Registration was open prior to the software update from May to June 30.
In his update to WGIL, he said that the system is still not working at full capacity but was now functional enough to allow families to register for school and complete the enrollment process.
“As long as people log into Skyward and go through the five-minute process, there will be no interruptions for teachers, but we do need a large number of families to register their children as of this writing,” he said in an email to WGIL.
