Galesburg City Council will meet on Monday night at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall with a full agenda that features the first reading on the sale of Churchill Junior High.
The once would-be community center could be sold for $100,000 to an LLC managed by Rob Benedict so he can lease the space out.
Here are a few more things the Council will be looking at on Monday night.
A pair of start-up assistance grants
Council can approve two more businesses for Minority/Woman-owned Business Startup Assistance grants.
First, Pho Lover at 1349 N . Henderson St., owned and operated by Xiao Lou Liu is being recommended for $10,000.
Council documents say that the Vietnamese restaurant is expecting to employ 6 full-time workers by the end of its second year, as well as two part-timers.
The other grant for consideration is for Country Square Treasures located at 1640 N. Henderson St.
Owner Janet Holmberg is planning a retail location that provides space for up to 65 vendors to rent individual booths to display and sell their handmade and retail offerings.
The KCAP Review Committee has also recommended Country Square Treasures for $10,000.
Playground for Lancaster Park
Aldermen can also approve the purchase of playground equipment for Lancaster Park.
Council recently approved a contractor to perform architectural and engineering work on the park that undergoes its make over next Spring.
The equipment costs $103,000 but after grants, the city share is about $60,000.
Contractor for next phase of pool repairs
Council can approve Klinger and Associates to prepare bid documents for the next phase of repairs to Hawthorne Pool.
The council decided in March of 2022 to make repairs to the municipal pool.
As Phase 1 nears completion, Phase 2 would involve renovating the HVAC system, replacing the boiler, and ceiling replacement in the locker rooms and corridor.
Klinger and Associates have been a part of this project from the beginning, including serving as construction manager for Phase 1.
More old houses coming down
Council members can also vote to move forward with demolishing a batch of dilapidated residential properties.
This initiates the legal process to take down the buildings after city inspections took place, and the owners failed to comply with violations.
Fixing the sidewalk by the library
As the new Galesburg Public Library is being constructed, new sidewalks are being installed on three sides of the block.
Council can approve a $12,376 quote from Hein Construction to replace the sidewalk on Academy St. from Simmons St. to Main.
The sidewalk is in poor shape, and the library expressed interest in it being replaced with the rest of the project and proposed that the library cover the costs of removing the existing sidewalk and requested the City pay for the new sidewalk to be poured.
