While traveling eastbound on West Losey Street Friday night, Galesburg Police observed a Chevrolet sedan with a suspended registration and conducted a traffic stop. Officers made contact with the 22-year-old male driver who said he did not have insurance on the vehicle since he just purchased it. The registration was suspended due to mandatory insurance coverage. Officers then deployed a K9 unit to perform a free air sniff test who then alerted them to the presence of narcotics. The driver was asked to step out and then became uncooperative with police not wanting them to search the vehicle. In the vehicle’s center console, police found a gallon-sized bag of cannabis, numerous baggies of cannabis in the glove compartment, and a metal tray with cannabis on the floor. The cannabis tested positive for the presence of THC. A total of 118.5 grams of cannabis was seized. The driver was charged with Possession of Cannabis between 100 and 500 grams, and the Manufacturing and Delivery of Cannabis between 30 and 500 grams. He was also cited for No Insurance and Driving on a Suspended Registration and transported to the Knox County Jail.
