Harry DeWayne “Smitty” Smith, 70, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home, Friday, August 4, 2023, at 5:18 a.m.
Harry was born September 26, 1952, in Galesburg, the son of Harry Edgar and Ethel Juanita (Roberts) Smith. He married Karna Goehl on February 25, 1978, in Galesburg. They later divorced in 2004.
Harry is survived by one son, Levi Smith of Galesburg; two daughters, Missy (Jeff) Young of Galesburg and Sara (Frank) Giardina of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Jonah, Olivia “Ace”, Anara, Durst, and Briar. He is also survived by two brothers, Allen (Debbie) Smith of Galesburg and Rodger (Sharon) Smith of Kennesaw, Georgia; and his girlfriend, Jo Ellen Waymoth of Galesburg. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Joshua Rash.
Harry retired from Gates Rubber Co. as a Maintenance Electrician. He loved cars and motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson’s. He enjoyed listening to karaoke, dancing, and spending time with his family. Harry was an avid Chicago Bears fan and had a knack for answering questions on Jeopardy. In his younger years, Harry enjoyed bowling.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Cremation will follow the visitation. No funeral services are planned.
