On Monday around 10:00 pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Silver Street by the Galesburg Fire Department after a home’s gas leak was deemed intentional. Police arrived on the scene and met with Ameren workers who already shut off the outside gas to the residence, and neighbors were evacuated by GPD and Galesburg Fire. Ameren told police when they arrived they noticed the cap to the gas line valve was removed and the kitchen stove was on with a burner lit and a frying pan over it. The 38-year-old female homeowner and her 18-year-old son were waiting outside when officials first arrived. The woman said her 16-year-old son is the only other person who lives at the house and may have come home and gone upstairs not noticing the gas smell. The teen was gone when his mother and brother returned home and a side door to the door had been left open. Ameren and Galesburg Fire determined the gas leak was intentional. Police are following up with neighbors to see any potential video footage of the incident.
