Knox-Galesburg Symphony looking towards season of (Re)Building

The Knox-Galesburg Symphony has announced their 2023-24 season which they are calling ‘A Season of (Re)Building.

A release from KGS says the 71st season that opens on September 9 focuses on “rebuilding connections with existing supporters and building new relationships in Galesburg and surrounding area.”

The season includes 14 performances, introducing three new concert series that looks to expand the Symphony’s reach in the region.

There will be the full orchestra series, which will feature both traditional orchestral repertoire along with works by lesser-known and underrepresented composers.

Orchestra performances will return to The Orpheum Theatre after being held in Galesburg High School’s Hegg Performing Arts Center last season.

The new Community Series will offer chamber music programs that will allow audience members to meet and interact with the musicians and experience live music in a more up-close way.

The Community Series will take place at the Symphony Center on Seminary St. and other venues.

The season will end with Summerfest, a music festival exploring the history of art songs and local lyrics. Summerfest will include performances, masterclasses, and educational workshops geared toward people of all ages

Kedrick Armstrong is returning for his second year as KGS’ Principal Conductor and Creative Partner.

The Knox-Galesburg Symphony’s season begins on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 7:30 PM at the Orpheum Theatre, featuring works by Beethoven, Wallen, and Schumann.
