The Galesburg Police Department is investigating numerous burglary reports at the UHAUL self-storage unit facility on West Carl Sandburg Drive. Police were called out to the facility on Friday and Saturday. A 50-year-old Abingdon woman reported an antique stained glass window was stolen from her storage unit. A 55-year-old Galesburg man reported three totes of Hot Wheels cars and other antique toys were stolen from his unit. A 59-year-old Canadian man who was renting out a unit for his college-aged daughter was broken into and appliances were stolen. In each instance, the storage unit locks were cut off and UHAUL replaced the locks with ones of their own and red tape. None of the victims were notified by UHAUL that their locks were missing or that a possible theft occurred. Galesburg Police observed one security camera on the premises, according to police reports. This comes two weeks after a man reported guns and household items being stolen from his UHAUL storage unit. In that incident, the man also discovered his unit was burglarized after arriving at the facility and finding new locks on his rented unit. Galesburg Police are investigating and local pawn shops have been notified of the thefts.
