Truck driver charged with DUI after backing into pickup

Galesburg Police on Thursday responded to 1000 South Linwood Road for reports of an accident on private property. A 23-year-old man reported his pickup truck was backed-into by a semi truck while in the Dick Blick parking lot. The truck had a cracked taillight and some minor rear bumper damage. The 48-year-old Georgia man told police he accidentally backed into the truck because he could not see it. Police then observed the man to have bloodshot eyes and was emitting an alcoholic odor. The man initially denied drinking but would later admit to drinking an hour prior to the accident. A field sobriety test indicated signs of impairment and the man provided a breath sample of .196 BAC – nearly two and half times the legal limit. The man refused to answer questions. He was transported to the Knox County Jail.  He was charged with DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol content of over .08.
