Community Center taskforce meets again Tuesday, new vice-chair to be elected

The third meeting of the Community Center Taskforce is coming up on Tuesday, a night when the group will choose a new vice-chair.

The task force will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 12th at the Galesburg Public Library, after holding their first two meetings at City Hall.
Antonio Franklin was previously the vice chair but stepped up into the chairman role after the resignation of John Polilo.
Taskforce members at their last meeting two weeks ago were given assignments to engage community partners in areas of youth/teens, adults/senior citizens, nonprofits, and existing city facilities.
The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting says that members will give an update on how those engagement efforts have been going.
The task force will also be welcoming a new member, Demarkius Medley, who was nominated by 4th Ward Alderman Dwight White after one of his previous picks, Del Tolliver, resigned.
At the previous meeting, a soft project cap of $2.5 million that has been recommended by a majority of the City Council was an early and frequent point of contention.
